Octopus: One of the most fascinating sea creatures in all of the ocean. You may have heard that an octopus has three hearts, and it is true. An octopus has many strategies of defense, and one of them is their toxic ink that they squirt out when they are feeling threatened. Another one of the octopus's strategies of defense is their jet propulsion. The way that jet propulsion works is water goes up into the octopus's head, then into a tube. The tube has muscles at the top of it, which quickly squeeze water out of the hole in the back, and that shoots the octopus forward at about 25 miles per hour. Another defense of the octopus is their well-known camouflage. The way that their camouflage works is through something called chromatophores that change when it crawls along the surface of the ocean. There can be hundreds of chromatophores on the smallest piece of skin. One thing that is very cool about an octopus is that if they lose a tentacle, it will regrow in three months. Thank you for reading today's post, and have a safe and fantastic rest of your day.
